Figures, major events, and sustainability closed out the month. Mexico consolidates its tourism leadership with record numbers and innovative projects.
Mexico Starts 2026 with Strong Tourism Figures
In the first two months of the year, 16.85 million international visitors arrived. That is a 9.3% increase compared to 2025. Tourists staying overnight totaled 8.17 million (+6.5%).

Participation in WTM Latin America 2026
Mexico was present in São Paulo, Brazil. The fair brought together more than 32,000 professionals. The Brazilian market grew 9.2% toward Mexico.
Cultural, beach, and nature destinations were promoted.
Puebla, World Archery Host
From April 7 to 12, Puebla hosted the Hyundai Archery World Cup. The finals took place in the Zócalo. Mexico won several bronze medals.
The event projected Puebla to a global audience.
AVA Resort Cancun Bets on Sustainability
On Earth Day, the resort showcased its progress. It implemented the largest solar microgrid in North America at a hotel. 3,550 panels generate 40% of its energy.
It also recycles fishing nets for carpets. Its sustainable lagoon reduces energy consumption by up to 50 times.
Sustainability in the Tequila Industry
Casa Herradura uses agave bagasse as biomass. In 2025, it used more than 1,500 tons. The rest is turned into compost.
Baja California Promotes Astrotourism
Rancho La Concepción obtained DarkSky Approved Lodging certification. It is the first destination in Mexico to achieve it.
It offers sky observation, astrophotography, and guided tours. It also integrates the cultural legacy of the Kiliwa community.
